Prison Department Psychologists

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many psychologists are employed by the prison department; and what are their responsibilities.

Eighty-six psychologists are employed by the prison department. Their responsibilities are:

  • (i) to assist in the management of problem cases by means of assessment and treatment;
  • (ii) to design, develop and evaluate treatment and training methods;
  • (iii) to assist with the design of staff training courses and the support of staff;
  • (iv) other services to management including advice on organisational development and design of management information systems;
  • (v) research.
