asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the progress of the Namibian independence talks.

The Western Five are continuing their efforts to achieve a Namibia settlement. Most issues connected with the United Nations plan have been resolved. However, it is widely acknowledged that the timing of implementation of the plan will be affected by the outcome of separate discussions on questions of regional security.
