asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his estimate of the number of newly built homes bought during the current year by housing associations for immediate re-sale on a shared purchase basis.

Since the Housing Corporation's programme of purchasing newly built dwellings directly from housebuilders for sale on a shared ownership basis began in November 1981, the corporation has given housing associations approval to purchase 1,634 such dwellings.
