asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much was spent by his Department in 1981–82 on the rehabilitation of offenders.

My Department paid a total of £112,650 in 1981–82 to the Scottish Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders towards the provision of services and facilities for offenders and their families. Grants were also paid to other voluntary organisations which provide for client groups which include offenders. If this is not the expenditure referred to by the hon.
