asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, further to his reply to the hon. Member for Stockport, North on 24 November, what action he expects the European Commission to take to conserve thrushes, larks and doves.

If the French Government are found to be in breach of the directive's rules, the Commission would, no doubt, make use of its powers under the Treaty of Rome.
