* New building work plus acquisitions less disposals of land and existing buildings, vehicles and plant and machinery. Capital expenditure in respect of establishments where production had not started before the end of the year is included.

† The Standard Industrial Classification (Revised 1980) is replacing the Standard Industrial Classification (Revised 1968) in economic statistics. The revised definition of manufacturing in the new classification is not precisely equivalent to the earlier definition.
