asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what are the plans of the Scottish Education Department in relation to the intake of youth and community courses as from session 1983–84; what will be their effect on the output of youth and community workers; and if he will make a statement.

I am consulting the bodies concerned about a proposal that the intake to these courses should be reduced as from the 1983–84 session. I shall reach a final decision when I have considered their comments.
