asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the average length of time for which young offenders remain in allocation centres before being allocated to a borstal.

The information requested is not collected centrally and could be provided only at disproportionate cost.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many young offenders were awaiting allocation to borstal on any recent convenient date.

On 19 November 1982, 292 young offenders were awaiting allocation to borstal, including 148 who had completed the allocation procedure and were awaiting transfer to the borstal centres.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many young offenders awaiting allocation to borstal on any recent convenient date have been in custody since their sentence for (a) two weeks or more and (b) four weeks or more.
