asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will establish criteria by which advice and assistance could be provided on developing their tourist industries as part of the technical assistance provided by his Department to recipient countries.

The development of tourism is one of the many areas in which we are ready to consider requests for aid from developing countries. All proposals for the use of aid are appraised to ensure their technical, financial and economic viability taking into account their social and environmental implications.
