asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many (a) wards and (b) beds have been closed in the various district health authority areas in the West Midlands since May 1979.

Information in the form requested is not held centrally. The hon. Member may like to approach the health authorities concerned for this information.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many persons are on the hospital waiting lists in the West Midlands regional health authority area for (a) general surgery, (b) gynaecology and (c) orthopaedic surgery.

At 31 March 1982, the latest date for which figures are available, the total number of patients on the hospital waiting lists for these specialties in the West Midlands Region were as follows:
