asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in preparing his Budget, if he will take into account the possibility of raising the £25,000 limit for tax relief on mortgage interest payments.

The mortgage interest relief limit has to be fixed each year in the Finance Bill and my right hon. and learned Friend will be considering the limit for the coming year in preparing his Budget.
