asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list separately in the Official Report the number of new house starts by local authorities, housing associations, the Scottish Special Housing Association and private developers in Scotland in the years 1979, 1981 and 1982, respectively, and any relevant information as to the projected figures for 1983.

The information requested on new house starts for 1979 and 1981 is published in table 8 of "Scottish Housing Statistics" No. 18, which is available in the Library. Details for the fourth quarter of 1982 are not yet available, but the starts reported for 1 January to 30 September 1982 are: local authorities 2,132; housing associations 1,574; Scottish Special Housing Association 543; and the private sector 9,970. It is too early to make reliable estimates for 1983.
