asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will organise a conference on cycling in 1985.

I intend to hold a conference on cycling safety in April. Lord Nugent of Guildford has agreed to act as chairman and I will be issuing invitations to a representative audience shortly. I intend the conference to be a forum for discussion of a wide range of measures to help increase the safety of cyclists. I hope that these discussions will aid the Department, local authorities and others when developing their policies for cycling.
