asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give an undertaking that there will be no Civil Service redundancies arising from the abolition of development land tax.

[pursuant to his reply, 28 March 1985]: Every effort will be made to avoid compulsory redundancies. The intention is to offer the staff in the DLT office vacancies in other Government offices. Vacancies for the clerical staff will be sought in offices within daily travelling distance. Posts for the more senior staff may only be available in other parts of the country.
