asked the Secretary of State for Energy, pursuant to his answer of 11 March, Official Report, column 33, on fast breeder reactors, if he will set out the arrangements that have been made with Euratom and the International Atomic Energy Agency for the application of nuclear safeguards on all parts of the European collaborative project on fast breeder reactors.

All parties to the collaborative project on fast reactors are member states of the European Community and therefore the application of Euratom safeguards on those parts of the project in each state will be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Euratom treaty.Additionally, each participant in the project is a party to a safeguards agreement between Euratom, itself and the International Atomic Energy Agency, and safeguards will be applied to the project in each state in accordance with its agreement with the agency.
