asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether, in formulating its recommendations in 1981 and subsequently, the committee on gynaecological cytology was advised or instructed that it should not require more resources to be deployed.

The committee on gynaecological cytology is composed of independent experts who have always been free to make whatever recommendations they believe appropriate.
