asked the Secretary of State for Energy how the maximum amount of electricity which can be carried by the cross-Channel electricity link compares with the average and peak winter loads of the Central Electricity Generating Board.

When completed the maximum amount of electricity which could be carried by the cross-Channel link will be 2000 MW. This compares with an average winter peak load of 40,000 MW and a maximum peak load of 45,000 MW.
