asked the Secretary of State for Defence what are the current estimated savings by his Department for 1984–85 as a result of privatisation schemes.

No private capital has been introduced during the year into any organisation which is the responsibility of my Department. However, the royal ordnance factories were established as a public limited company from the beginning of this year and privatisation is planned to take place in due course; the options for the royal dockyards at Devonport and Rosyth are still under consideration, as was announced in the House on 17 April.
