Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson
asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what response he is making to the "Charter for Children in Hospital" produced by the National Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospital, a copy of which has been sent to him; and if he will make a statement.
Mr. John Patten
We welcome this charter which reflects very well the principles underlying longstanding policies on the care of children in hospital. We recognise the considerable efforts the National Association for the Welfare Children in Hospital has put into agreeing the terms of the charter with the different professional groups concerned. We believe the charter will assist parents and staff to keep the best interests of children foremost in their minds.
