asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will increase funding for crime prevention schemes.

We attach importance to the provision by the Department of advice and assistance to local authorities, the police and the community generally in promoting crime prevention initiatives. Financial support for innovative schemes designed to prevent or alleviate the effects of crime will continue to be available through the urban programme. Applications from local authorities to fund schemes in this financial year are currently being considered by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment.
