asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the current position in international negotiations for the construction of a European fighter aircraft.

The current position is that evaluation of the reports of the EFA feasibility study has been completed. Meetings at official level are continuing in order to prepare the ground for the EFA Defence Ministers' meeting to which I referred yesterday in response to a question from the hon. Member for Preston (Mr. Thorne).
