asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what conclusions he has drawn from the survey of primary class children in the Falkland Islands.
The Falkland Islands Government have recently administered standardized tests of attainment in reading and arithmetical skills to all seven and 10-year-old children in the Colony. They conclude that children of primary school age in the Falkland Islands are being taught at a suitably high level.
asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs why Spanish teaching has been re-introduced into the curriculum in Falkland Islands' schools.
The Falkland Islands Government propose to reintroduce Spanish into the school curriculum in the course of the next academic year. This is intended to benefit pupils in two ways: they will be able to acquire an additional qualification for entry to institutions of further and higher education, and the best second language to learn is the language of neighbouring countries.
