asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement regarding the latest position in the teachers pay dispute.

The Burnham committee met on 15 May, when constructive informal exchanges took place between the leaders of the two sides. The independent chairman noted that neither side had committed itself to a particular line or figure. Discussion is to be resumed on 23 May.
