asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer by how much the average take-home wage for a single man, a married couple without children and a married couple with two children has increased in purchasing power since 1979; and if he will make a statement.

Real take-home pay for these households with average earnings was 11 per cent. higher in 1984–85 than in 1978–79.
