asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he is satisfied with the number of mature students who have entered higher education since 1979.

Yes. The number of home full-time initial entrants to higher education in Great Britain aged 21 and over increased from 34,300 in 1979 to 39,000 in 1983, or 13ยท7 per cent.
