asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the prospects for the tourism industry in 1985.

The Scottish Tourist industry has a sound base on which to build and offers good prospects for growth. Amongst the service industries, tourism is already a notable provider of jobs and contributed significantly to the economy of Scotland with tourism sales reaching record levels in 1983 and 1984. There are excellent prospects for 1985. The industry hopes to surpass previous records and in doing so ensure that Scotland captures a worthwhile share of the expanding world market in tourism.
