asked the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to the answer of 8 May, Official Report, column 386, whether, when the Controller of Aircraft telephoned Sir Raymond Lygo, the managing director of British Aerospace on 15 March to confirm that the company understood that its offer of 14 March was its final offer and Sir Raymond indicated that he did not so understand, any indication was given to Sir Raymond that a further offer from British Aerospace might be accepted by his Department; whether the Controller of Aircraft encouraged Sir Raymond to make a further bid; and if he will make a statement.

I have nothing further to add to the answers given to the hon. Gentleman on 8 May 1985 at column 386 and 22 May at column 426. I would also refer the hon. Gentleman to the answer given to my hon. Friend the Member for Beverley (Sir P. Wall) on 23 May 1985 at column 501.
