asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will assess grant-related expenditure for transition costs to the London boroughs resulting from abolition of the Greater London council.

No. Grant related expenditure for local authorities in London will continue to be assessed on the same basis as for authorities elsewhere in the country.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment which abolition authorities responded favourably to his letter of 17 April regarding discussions with the Government about the mechanics of abolition; and what was the response of the Association of Metropolitan Authorities and the Trades Union Congress.
