asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food why new guidelines on food labelling require sugar to be included under the general heading of carbohydrates.

Draft guidelines for voluntary full nutrition labelling were issued on 27 March, and would provide the option of declaring one figure for total carbohydrates, or of declaring total carbohydrates plus a separate figure for sugar within that total. All interested bodies were invited to comment, and all comments will be considered before any final decision is reached.
