asked the Secretary of State for Defence how much it will cost the Royal Air Force in terms of accommodation, transport and other facilities for personnel who will staff the Rapier anti-aircraft missiles guarding the American facilities at Alconbury from 1986.

[pursuant to his reply, 17 June 1985, c. 38]: About £250,000 in 1985–86, £240,000 in 1986–87 and £200,000 a year thereafter. These costs are offset by reduction in the research and development levy for the Trident programme under arrangements published in July 1980 (Cmnd. 7979).
