asked the Secretary of State for Social Services which laboratories within his Department have had their research budgets reduced in the current financial year; what is the financial value of the reduction; what is this figure expressed as a percentage of the total work carried out in the laboratory; and which of his laboratories for which he is responsible are being considered for privatisation.

Information on the funding of research in 1985–86 in individual laboratories of health authorities and other bodies financed through the Department is not held centrally. No laboratories are being considered for privatisation.
