asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many complaints were made against the police during the mining dispute; how many cases have been considered to date; and, of these, in how many cases the complaint has been upheld and in how many cases it was not upheld.

Five hundred and forty-nine complaints against the police arising from the miners' strike have been recorded under section 49 of the Police Complaints Board and, since 19 April, its successor, the Police Complaints Authority, had, up until 19 June, considered the outcome of 135 completed complaint investigations arising from the dispute.
