asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what consideration he has given to the use of labour-saving benefits from the use of new technology to enable offices of his Department which directly serve the public to remain open in the evenings and at weekends.

Once the benefits of new technology have been felt in local offices in improving the current service, consideration can then be given to widening that service.
