asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, pursuant to the answer of 24 June, Official Report, column 331, what evidence he has that non-National Health Service hospitals may increasingly be obtaining their supplies of blood direct from National Health Service regional blood transfusion centres rather than through the hospital blood banks.

We have no quantitative evidence. My reply was based on views expressed by staff within the regional transfusion centres.
