Mr. Patrick McNair-Wilson
asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will publish details of the Government's policy with regard to the siting of mobile canteens without permission in lay-bys on trunk roads.
Mrs. Chalker
Our policy is to tolerate mobile canteens in safe locations on trunk roads because they provide a useful service to road users. Canteens are, however, not allowed if they cause a road safety hazard, create problems for traffic flows, interfere with the purpose for which the lay-bys are provided, or become an environmental nuisance.
