asked the Secretary of State for the Environment why it has taken since 17 March to consider the Greater London council application under section 7 of the Local Government (Interim Provisions) Act to make grants to Searchlight, Spare Rib and the Women's Peace Bus.

Because each application must be considered carefully and on its individual merits. Relevant information on the grant to Searchlight, for which consent has now been given, was not provided by the GLC until 20 May.After the most careful consideration, consent to the proposed grants to Spare Rib and the Women's Peace Bus Co-operative has now been refused.
