asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what briefing has been given to the inspector for the impending public inquiry into the proposed area of outstanding natural beauty in the North Pennines; and if he will make a statement.

A brief will be provided for the inspector in due course and will be made available on request from the opening of the inquiry or at any pre-inquiry meeting.
