asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he proposes to allocate extra funds to the Sports Council for the improvement of sports stadiums.

The financial implications of safety improvement work are being considered by my working group, comprising representatives from the football authorities, the Football Trust, the Football Grounds Improvement Trust, the Sports Council and Government Departments. At this stage we do not have an overall estimate of the likely costs of any necessary safety work and it is therefore too early to consider how much, and from what source, funding might he available.
