Mr. Steen
asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what is the estimated cost of offering free chiropody services to one-armed war pensioners;(2) if he will introduce free chiropody services for one-armed war pensioners; and if he will make a statement.
Mr. Newton
[pursuant to his reply, 1 July 1985, c. 56–57]: Chiropody is already available free under the National Health Service and all disabled people are given priority. We are considering the case for providing private chiropody for war pensioner arm amputees when their need for treatment cannot be met through the National Health Service. The cost of doing so is estimated to be in the region of £31,000.
