asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will permit worker representatives on public statutory bodies to be nominated by independent trade unions and others as well as the Trades Union Congress.

Workers' representatives are already nominated to some of those public bodies to which this Department makes appointments by workers' organisations not affiliated to the Trades Union Congress, where this is justified by the number of appointments to be made.
