asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why the repository of files from Bradford tax districts is being moved from Bradford to Leeds; what type of accommodation is required for storing files; how many premises in Bradford were considered; when the repository in Leeds will open; whether it is intended that this facility will be used permanently; how long a repository for tax files has been located in Bradford; what manpower implications result from re-locating the repository in Leeds; and what is the cost of establishing the repository in Leeds.

The Bradford repository, used since 1970, has a number of unsatisfactory features, including asbestos problems. The files will be moved permanently to an ideally suitable and readily available light industrial Crown building in Leeds in March 1986. It is therefore unnecessary to consider alternative accommodation in Bradford. Six jobs will go to Leeds. The cost of establishing the Leeds repository will be around £575,000.
