Sir William van Straubenzee
asked the Secretary of State for Transport what discussions he has had with European Transport Ministers on high speed rail links through a possible Channel tunnel.
Mr. David Mitchell
In discussions with the French Transport Minister, Monsieur Auroux, in connection with the Channel fixed link I have made it clear that, while through rail links are primarily a question for negotiation between the railway administrations concerned and the promoters of the fixed link,. I would welcome any commercially viable arrangement which could be reached.
