Mrs. Dunwoody
asked the Secretary of State for Transport what information he has as to the number of lorry bans applied by local authorities and the total number of miles of roads affected by such bans in each of the past 10 years.
Mr. Ridley
[pursuant to his reply, 16July 1985,c. 106]: Information is not available in the form requested. The most recent survey carried out by the Department identified some 2,250 lorry controls that had been introduced by local authorities on amenity grounds. A list of schemes entitled "List of Lorry Control Schemes Made on Amenity Grounds" is in the Library, and I am putting a supplementary list in the Library in respect of the 143 schemes in operation in 1983 in Greater London.
