Lord James Douglas-Hamilton
asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will make a statement about his proposals concerning the tape recording of police questioning.
Mr. Younger
I have just received the final report of the working party on the tape-recording of police interviews with suspects. The full working party report together with the report of the experimental study which was carried out in Scotland is now being printed and should be available in August. It would then be my aim to have a consultation period lasting until the end of the year. I shall make a further statement to the House in due course about the implications of the working party recommendations and the reactions to the consultative document.
