Nimrod Aircraft (Civil Call Signs)

asked the Secretary of State for Defence why a Nimrod aircraft was required to mimic the call sign and behaviour of a transatlantic civil airliner whilst shadowing and photographing current Soviet exercises off the coast of Norway; and what assessment Her Majesty's Government have made of the implications of this incident for the future safety and security of civil air traffic.

I am not aware of any incident such as that referred to by the hon. Member.
