asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what action his Department has taken to improve the technical, financial and organisational aspects of the meat inspection service.

We set up in May 1984 a team consisting of Sir Peter Preston KCB (chairman), Mr. John Cross CBE and Mr. Charles Runge to look into the technical, financial and organisational aspects of red meat inspection in Great Britain. The team's report was published on 14 May 1985 and interested parties have been invited to comment by 16 September. We shall decide on what action to take when we have fully considered the team's report together with any comments received.
