asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many general practitioners there are in rural practices in Scotland at the latest available date; and how many there were in 1979.

The number of unrestricted general medical practitioners classified by health boards as working in rural practice was 339 at 1 October 1984. The equivalent figure, at the same date in 1979 was 316.
