Mr. J. Enoch Powell
asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether the posts of directors of the national museums in Scotland are graded mobile or non-mobile for the purpose of employment conditions.
Mr. Allan Stewart
The post of director of the royal Scottish museum is graded as mobile. The director of the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland is appointed by the board of trustees for that museum. All employees of the trustees are treated for all practical purposes (including pay and conditions of service) as if they are civil servants, and therefore the post of director is graded mobile.
