Mr. Roland Boyes
(Houghton and Washington)
On a point of order, Mr. Speaker. At about 4 pm yesterday you were asked about the legality of the statutory instrument on board and lodging which will be presented next Tuesday. My hon. Friend the Member for Denton and Reddish (Mr. Bennett) raised a point of order, to which you replied:
A number of us doubt the right of the House to debate that measure next Tuesday. I wonder whether you, Mr. Speaker, have had an opportunity yet to consider this matter and whether you would like to comment on your findings."I shall certainly look at it, but I do not think that it is a responsibility of mine."—[Official Report, 24 October 1985; Vol. 84, c. 438.]
Mr. Speaker
I have nothing further to add to what I said yesterday afternoon. I understand that certain discussions took place during the evening. I am not privy to them.
