The bankruptcy figures cover all individuals and partnerships; receiving orders, administration orders and deeds of arrangement are included. Approximately three quarters of all bankruptcies relate to unincorporated businesses. Figures for bankruptcies after 1 October 1984 are not comparable with earlier periods because of changes in monetary limits on bankruptcy proceedings and deposits on petitions. Company liquidations include both compulsory and creditors' voluntary liquidations. Figures of company liquidations are not analysed by area.
